Default Getting around blocked ports on my internet connection

I live in a dorm now and they block some ports for stuff like games, file sharing, etc. Some poker sites can get through but some can't and they're very slow. Is there any way I can figure out which ports are blocked and to try to get around them?

In reality, your internet provider (in this case, your uni/whatever) will probably have blocked all ports except certain ones. Some of the ports that they'd leave unblocked include 80 (for http) for example.

You're not likely to be able to get around it easily. Those things are designed to totally ignore incoming data on those ports.

So, your solution will be to use other ports instead. You may find that some Virtual Private Networks (VPN) may be able to help you.

It may just be easier to use an alternative internet service.

You could do something like GoToMyPC or other VPN stuff to connect to your home computer, then use that to connect, but I'm not sure how fast that is. Any other alternative ISP's?
