Default Velocitated

So, earlier this year, the effective stakes at which I was playing increased by both moving up in limits (from mostly 2/4-3/6 6m LHE to 5/10-10/20 6mlhe) and increasing the number of tables (from 4-6 to 10-12). As a result, the swings in terms of $ have dramatically increased. $1000 swings are now almost the rule rather than the rarity. And I'm at the point where I'm ok with that. Dropped $1200 on Monday, and I was less annoyed about the $ than about the losing/playing suboptimally. Now part of this is that I'm playing on a sizable roll for those stakes, but it's also that I've become 'velocitated' to the increased speed.

On one level, this is a good thing, because taking the "real $ value" aspect of it away is necessary for playing good poker. But on the other hand, I'm worried that I've deadened a psychological defense mechanism - I've starved the canary in the mine, so to speak. I don't consider myself much of an action junkie, but could this be a step towards inducing a busto-spiral because I miss the warning signs of either my game deteriorating or the games around me becoming tougher?

Becoming desensitized to money is critical - can't wait 'til I get there. But something I read really stuck with me, about a player's game:

"If you aren't getting better, you're getting worse."

The advice was: read a poker book (even one you've read before) once a month.

Post HHs on good forums once a week.

Just keep in touch with yourself - the insensitive to money thing is really good, though.

No I don't necessarily think so. The main reason I don't think you're inducing a busto spiral is because you say that your bankroll is adequate for the stakes your playing, amirite? If you can drop down when and if necessary, I think you'll be okay. GL. I hope I addressed what you were asking.

This is the part that worries me the most, TBH. If necessary, would I be able to play 2/4 games (or NL50) and not become board or burnt out? And I don't know the answer to that...

Obviously you cant know the answer of something you haven`t experienced.
To be honest I think you are over-thinking and over-complicating this.
Just make sure that you play your A game when you play and make sure you quit a session when you don`t and think about problems IF or when you get there.

As everything in life, the right answer is always the simplest one. [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
