Ranges, Isolation and the damn Blinds
Ok.
I am trying to get a grasp of when to isolate limpers and with which hands. I'll try and explain with an example. 5-handed Limit 3/6. UTG 40 vpip, pf raise 5, low aggro factor LIMPS CO folds Button Hero with K9o SB LAG MP TAG My question is this; Should I raise with ANY hand that has more than 50% equity vs his range? Can I go way lower than 50% considering I have position? How much should I care that BB is a TAG and SB a LAG and that K9o does not play well multiway? Obviously it depends on his postflop play but I am more interested in the maths regarding these matters... His range will be (after I have discounted the top 5% hands) 77-44, ATs-A2s, AQo-A3o, KJs-K2s, KQo-K7o, QJs-Q4s, QJo-Q8o, JTs-J7s, JTo-J8o, T9s-T7s, T9o, 98s-97s and 87s. K9o vs opponents range will have 49,704% equity... Generally - what guidelines do you use vs opponents vpip/pf raising ranges when 3-betting/calling etc etc...? I could certainly do with some help on these issues... |

Re: Ranges, Isolation and the damn Blinds
Villain doesn't necessarily raise the top 5% of hands; he only raises 5% of hands. You don't know what range of hands he raises.
A lot of these players have bizarre raising standards. They may limp KK but always raise JJ/TT. |

Re: Ranges, Isolation and the damn Blinds
yeah easy raise for me. This is exactly the spot I want to be in. HU with a bad player OOP and a relatively strong hand. He'll usually wake up and get aggressive on the later streets if he flops something or was limping a strong hand, but otherwise I'll be able to play against him very easily (bet when I'm ahead of his range and take free cards and free SDs when I want to).

Re: Ranges, Isolation and the damn Blinds
With tough loose players in the blinds I dont mind folding here in this rather rake heavy game.
Also. The point others made is very important. 1) These guys dont raise top 5% 2) These guys arent limping top40%-5%. There is a bunch of spots where they fold hands to a raise where they would have limped. So when a guy has a vpip of 40% he is prolly limping like 60%. |
