Re: donking turns
Fold the flop. Opponent is either beating you or has 9 outs on flop and 12 outs on the turn, so your equity is poor even when you are ahead, and you are out of position. It is much better to do this with a hand with some equity, like a flush draw or AQ.

Re: donking turns
if your opponent can read hands at all you are burning money with this play as it looks like a marginal hand and a bluff and almost always is. this is a spot where a good thinking opponent should be bluffraising you a lot.

Re: donking turns
Your actual hand here is exactly what I would think you have when you take this line fwiw.

Re: donking turns
Ok, what if you incorporate this move with other hands than bluffs? I actually do this with decent hands when I know there is a good chance villain will check turn behind.
i.e. I'd play KT like that sometimes |

Re: donking turns
if you want to start making this play with a wide range of hands i still dont like it, because of what action it induces from a villain. Worse hands often fold and sometimes raise, whereas we are never getting a better hand to fold.
so you are basically minimizing value and open yourself to getting bluffed frequenty with marginal holdings that are hard to continue with. |

Re: donking turns
yea, good points, but I kinda choose what villains I do this to. And FWIW, if some guy tanks and finally shove I'm more than willing to call.
How would you play the hand I posted in OP w/ KT ? IME a lot of people flat calls the turn donk with TP hands. I might even put a 1/2 river value bet against bad villains after they call turn (not in that particular hand) |
