Kobe Bryant: #24 !!!?!??

Maybe this is old news, but I thought this was interesting.

Kobe Bryant changed his jersey number to 24?

Has this been known for sometime? Did he state the main reason in doing this? Is he still nuts?

it's just a jersey number - why is this big news?

chances are that changing his jersey number will boost his jersey sales considerably (since a lot of fans who already have the "8" jersey will also want the "24" one) so it seems far from "nuts".
