Default What % Drop by Christmas?

Looking at 42"+ LCD or Plasma for Christmas as my reward for going 1 year with out a TV.

How much of a price drop should I expect by then off the current prices?

I'm not an expert, but didn't the models drop a huge % at the end of the year? TVs that were going for $2,000 were $400-800 off. I also read that the prices will continue to drop fast, you should probably ask this question at AVSForum.com.

You should check out costco for your purchase too. You might have to pay $100 more or so, but the lifetime warranty is just killer. Any dead pixel, image-retention problem, etc and you can return it. The grand canyon collapses inwards because of the snow and destroys your TV, return it. If you're unethical, you can even replace it after 2 years with an upgraded model! Black Friday is the best day to get it. You'll have to endure a ton of BS, but that's really the only time you're likely to see an amazing, killer deal. But FWIW, you can get a 42" plasma much cheaper than you could a year ago, so it might be less than you think, not sure if you've been looking for prices lately or not.
