Absinthe - WTF?
I was just reading about this, and evidently it's some old time crazy drink that supposedly resulted in hallucinations, and/or crazy behavior (ca. 1900) So I guess people are getting into again, or it has some sub-culture thing going? It appears to have a very large "I drink this [censored] because I am so [censored] pretentious" factor. Also it evidently has been banned because of it's "thujone" content, lol. What is thujone? Apparently, it's no big deal, just old baggage from bad data. Part of me is curious to try this, but I very much doubt it gives hallucinations.
If anyone drinks this, please report and advise. A couple links: wikipedia buy your own? lol |

Re: Absinthe - WTF?
My cousin brought a bottle of this back from Amsterdam. Had a few shots, didn't experience any hallucinations. Tasted pretty horrible though.

Re: Absinthe - WTF?
It's very strong alcohol that tastes terrible. Any other effects are seriously overrated or non-existent.

Re: Absinthe - WTF?
If you pop by Palo Alto I have a bottle from the Czech republic. I can probably also hook you up with som thujone from the lab but... long story short its just a GABA A antagoist so there are other ways to get there I guess.
In either case, its found in Absinth in such small quantities that it wont matter. You will drink yourself into obliviation (its 70% alcohol) from the ethanol long before you get any effect from the thujone. linky [edit] edited for scientific content |

Re: Absinthe - WTF?
not sure how true this is, but what i've heard is the absinthe we drink nowadays has an increased alcohol percentage so you're going to be in a coma before you hallucinate.
again not sure how true, but friends of mine say they have drank some low alcohol content versions of it when in barcelona and had the wardrobe grow legs and walk over to them when they were in bed. my only experience is getting very very drink from this and flatliners. |
