I'm curious what he had. I usually put them on a draw or a weak hand they are trying to get to show down cheap with and I punish them, They never seem to call so I'm not sure what it is.

Remember the betting pattern... I RR them on every street with any two cards. You will occasionally run into a passive guy that plays a set like this but the others by far make up for it, Be aware of the draws also, make sure you don't pay them off when they hit.

I really think you need to raise preflop with this hand. You have KQo and are in middle position, i won't mind a flat call with a more speculative hand say a 10,9d or suited connector. But you really don't want to play and hand like KQo and let some limpers in. Your going to be looking to hit a top pair with this type of hand and if you get lucky maybe a kkx flop or a JTx flop. You don't want to have 3 limpers and the flop come K,7,2 and you get check raised by the bb.

I really do not like the open limp here. You arent going to have great position for the rest of this hand so limping just lets others in behind you on the cheap. Then if you do catch a piece of the flop, you are going to be playing a guessing game out of position if an opponent shows any srength. open raise 3.5-4BB.
On the flop i like the raise. On the turn this small bet is hard to interpret. He could be playing a set this way to induce a raise or a draw and is trying to make a blocking bet to get a cheap river. This is where good reads come into play. Without reads I like the way you played it. |

Re: NL 50 no read on villian, what to make of turn bet?
This is almost always a blocking bet, trying to get to showdown on the cheap. Looks like it worked. I'd be tempted to raise him here even if I had air or a draw which hadn't gotten there yet. He's probably got a bad King or a decent Ten. Or a straight draw. If he has a set then he's a weirdo and you should make a note of it.
And raise preflop, please. Open limping in the Hijack is non-optimal. |
