Hyundai vs. Honda
My wife is getting a new car. She is interested in low cost, high gas mileage, and durability.
She likes a Honda Civic and a Hyundai Elentra. I need feedback on these options, as well as some other ideas if you have them. |

Re: Hyundai vs. Honda
I'd def check out stuff like Consumer Reports and Car & Driver. Full on reviews/ratings are going to be worth more than the blurbs you'll get here

Re: Hyundai vs. Honda
hyundai = low reliability and terrible resell value.
If you want a small car, I'd consider that civic, a toyota corolla, or a mazda 3. |

Re: Hyundai vs. Honda
honda. safer, more efficient, more drivable, better materials, holds value better. the only thing the hyundai may have is cheaper initial cost, equal or on par reliability, and better warranty.
honda, no contest. |

Re: Hyundai vs. Honda
Kinda surprised that Honda is considered the better car. My mom, stepdad and myself all own Hyundais. We have never had any real problems with the cars that were not our own personal fault. I really like the car and probably will purchase another one sometime down the road.

Re: Hyundai vs. Honda
As far as durability goes, you see alot more older Hondas on the road than older Hyundais. There's a reason for this ... Hondas are much more durable and reliable. I imagine over a period of 3-5 years the Hondas reliability makes it a lower cost car than an Hyundai.

Re: Hyundai vs. Honda
Check Consumer Reports for sure. They jizzed all over the Elantra a couple of years ago. I bought one in 2004. My only complaint is the mediocre gas mileage- I get about 22.2 MPG overall, which is remarkably [censored] for a small car. No complaints about the rest of it, however. Nice little car, and probably at least 5k cheaper than a Civic.

Re: Hyundai vs. Honda
Anyone not saying to at least look into a Hyundai has not looked at cars in the last 3-5 years. When Toyota, now the world's largest car manufacturer, says that its biggest competition going forward is Hyundai, you know they have potential and great current cars. They have stepped up reliability, resale value, drivability, *everything*, in recent years.

Re: Hyundai vs. Honda
Honda has been building some very solid, safe and reliable cars for many years now. The public finally noticed this, therefore their resale value is through the roof.
Hyundai has been improving their cars a ton in the last several years, but before that they were pretty bad, so they don't have the reputation (and high resale value) yet. You could use this to your advantage if you buy a slightly used car, but it would be a big disadvantage if you're buying new. I don't think they're quite on par with Honda yet, but their cars from the last couple years are at least worth a look now. |
