Starting hand Requirements
I'm basically a Omaha 8 or better n00b and I just have a quick question. In a low limit Omaha 8 or better cash game is it standard to call a raise with AK29. It wasn't suited and I had been playing tight and folded it. Later I told someone and they said I was an idiot. Was I suppose to call?

Re: Starting hand Requirements
I like your fold. I think it's pretty easy. You have A2 which is good and AK is all right. But nothing is suited and the 9 is useless to you.
You avoid getting quartered by folding in this spot. Of course, it depends on your read on who was raising. However as a noob, folding is best in this spot. |

Re: Starting hand Requirements
I would not fold this hand once in 1,000. There are plenty of situations where I would reraise instead of call.
Have you ever seen the range of hands people raise with preflop, esp in low limit online poker? |

Re: Starting hand Requirements
Since it's low limit, I would still call. The only time I would fold is if I had a strong read that the original raiser has A2 plus another wheel card. If 4 people go to showdown (which happens often enough at the low limits) you don't lose money by getting quartered.
