like is there different types of connectors or are they all the same standard? Should I just buy the fastest one, or could it be limited by my motherboard etc? |

Re: Need a new hard drive
Go to http://storagereview.com/ to find reviews of hard drives.
As psionic storm suggested, you can tell if you have PATA or SATA by looking to see how your current hard drive is connected. If it's a small connector, it's SATA. |

sata and pata connectors. [/ QUOTE ] There's also scsi, but it's not too common on desktop PC's. You mostly find scsi on servers, and sometimes on high end gaming PC's. SATA is pretty much standard on newer PC's, and PATA (aka ATA or IDE) was standard for many years before SATA came along. Most newer PC's have both, as PATA is still used for CD and DVD drives, but if you have a SATA controller, it's best to get a SATA hard drive, as they are usually faster. |

htp://neweg.com Sorry, I couldn't be bothered to fix my typos. [/ QUOTE ] Stigmata is UK, newegg no goot www.dabs.com www.aria.co.uk www.scan.co.uk Are reasonable alternatives over here (Americans can feel free to lol at the prices we consider "good" fo flat panels etc. by viewing these ) I sell these things by day... I like the new Maxtor(Seagate) SATA II drives right now - cheap, fast & seem decent enough - but NEVER TRUST A HARD DRIVE!!! ... or WD Raptors if money no object. Above links not me BTW - major UK retailers I have dealt with before with decent service in event of problems. dave. |
