Potting the river with nut flush
Is this standard or should I be getting trickier with this on the turn / river to extract more value? If so, how?
Seat 1: PokerroomMGR ($27.60 in chips) Seat 2: Hero [ Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img],6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img],A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img],4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] ]($75.90 in chips) Seat 6: blend01 ($8.25 in chips) Seat 10: Kristian46 ($17.75 in chips) ANTES/BLINDS Hero posts blind ($0.25), blend01 posts blind ($0.25). PRE-FLOP Kristian46 calls $0.25, PokerroomMGR calls $0.25, Hero checks, blend01 checks. FLOP [board cards 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img],3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img],8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ] Hero bets $0.60, blend01 folds, Kristian46 calls $0.60, PokerroomMGR folds. TURN [board cards 7C,3C,8D,10[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] ] Hero bets $2.20, Kristian46 calls $2.20. Re: Potting the river with nut flush
If you try to induce a bluff on the river by checking, will the villain think that he can sell the 5 as a scare card that made his hand? Doubt it. 6-4 would be it.
I pot the river holding the nuts almost all of the time, especially on the lower stakes games. I pot it 100% of the time if its O/8. BTW, seems like villain had 9-10. Maybe bottom set, but I would expect him to pop it on the flop if that was the case. |

Re: Potting the river with nut flush
Meh, I don't usually full pot the river with the nuts unless I really think I'm going to get paid off. And typically you aren't going to get paid off unless you have a read that they are stubborn or unless you have built up some sort of maniacl image. Every time I bet pot and they fold I always find myself thinking "[censored], 5 $10 bets into a $50 are more likely to get called than that god damn $50 bet." andyes I know it only has to be called 1 out of every 5 times, but it usually happens less than that unless I have history with the player.

Re: Potting the river with nut flush
I actually bet probably about 1/3 pot in a vacuum because I feel that it pays off more in the long run than pot bets.

Re: Potting the river with nut flush
You need to know how much each villain is willing to call with a good hand but not the nuts at the river and then bet that amount. But then you still just get a fold when their draw hasn't come through.
Another way to look at this is to setup villains to think you just might be bluffing or blocking betting. How much do you bet at the river if you think you might be ahead but you are not quite sure, sort of a blocking bet type bet? If you have been called a few times and have showdown less than nuts, perhaps bet the nuts in the same way and therefore adding credibility to you blocking bets while getting more calls when you have the nuts? |
