Old Desktop... Sell? Trash?
I built a PC back in 2001 and have been making upgrades ever since. Now that I have a new laptop, I really don't need the PC anymore. The PC works great except for it randomly restarts once in while (not sure what the problem is, vid card maybe, RAM maybe). I could probably fix that problem pretty cheaply. I can't figure out what to do because it's essentially a very solid working system, but after looking at eBay prices, it seems to have no $$$ value. Here are the specs...
VIA Socket A motherboard AMD Athlon CP 2100+ 1.73 GHz 512 MB RAM 30GB HD 80GB HD SiS 315 video card Network card Sound card CD-RW Drive Floppy drive TV Tuner card The case is a mess What should I do with this system? Should I sell it as a whole or should I sell it part by part? Should I even sell it at all? |

Re: Old Desktop... Sell? Trash?
To be honest, its not really gonna be worth selling it part by part or the whole system whole on ebay. Your best bet might be selling it to some local shop for like $100 or even better, donate it to someone who needs a computer.
Also, the restarting problem might be due to overheating. Check all the fans on the case and motherboard, processor and make sure they are all working/not jammed full of dust. |

Re: Old Desktop... Sell? Trash?
Since it's worth very little and seems to somewhat work I'd say keep it. You never know when your main computer might have troubles. It's nice to have a backup to eliminate downtime.

Re: Old Desktop... Sell? Trash?
if you get rid of it, destroy the HDs, or reformat them and fill them up with some huge files to erase any tax or personal (child porn) info you may have on them.
