Re: QQ - in position against aggro player on A high flop
I don't understand the flop check.
If you're going to check the flop, I'd raise the turn and reevaluate. If you're opponent is thinking, the flop check/turn raise line is an awesome weapon short-handed. You might also want to try the short-handed forum. Was this a full table that went short? |

You should usually continuation-bet this flop.

I also don't understand the flop check. Bet and evaluate from there.

Re: QQ - in position against aggro player on A high flop
usually i will c-bet, but against my aggro opponent, i felt like checking the flop in this situation would induce villain to bluff lead the turn/river much more with a worse hand, since he doesnt put me on the Ace. If he has crap, or a hand like eights even, he might lead turn if i check behind on flop, but if i c-bet flop, he would just fold. Against very aggro opponents, is this an ok line? i felt like i was WA/WB on flop, and just wanted him to bet and i call.

Re: QQ - in position against aggro player on A high flop
After the flop all you have is a pair of queens, why give a free card?

Bet flop. If no bet flop, raise turn. Free card bad. Lead Good.

Re: QQ - in position against aggro player on A high flop
The free card doesn't really matter--if we're ahead on the flop then villain has 5 outs maximum (okay, 8 outs if he's got 86 or 64), if we're not, then we almost certainly have just 2.
Actually, if you believe that this villain is both aggro enough to fire 2 rounds into you when you show weakness, and straightforward enough to check/fold the flop when you bet, then I like this line. The problem is that this is an insanely rare combination for a small stakes player--most guys who would fire the turn & river without the ace would also peel the flop without it (especially if he does have a pair). Further, a lot of aggro players will actually fear the slowplay when you check through such a dry, ace high flop, and just check/fold the turn without top pair or better. In that light, you are almost always better off just betting the flop. Since this opponent is aggressive, I could deal with checking through the turn & calling a river bet, vs. betting the turn & checking through the river. The one exception might be when your opponent is so tricky/aggressive that you believe he'd check/raise the flop & fire two more barrels without the ace. |
