I have recently seen a job posting that I am interested in, but the location is in either Perth or Brisbane (I am from Canada). The salary SEEMS excellent (110K - 130K AUD), which would be A LOT in Canadian dollars considering I have only a few years of experience in my field.
My question is, how does the cost of living in Australia compare to Canada and/or the USA? Property seems expensive doesn't it? How about other consumer goods such as food, gas, etc, etc? What I'm getting to is, would making $120K AUD be the same as making 98K CAD as the currency converter suggests? |

First off if you plan on doing it you have to do it before your 30. They have strict immigration laws once your over 30. Australia is very comparable to Canada except for the snow. I have a friend in the Engineering field that is considering it. Why not travel there for 3 weeks and explore your options.

I live in Perth, it's very, very cheap. I'd imagine it's probably cheaper to live here than Canada. I know quite a few Canadian student/poker players too, and they like it here just fine.

Seabeast,
That's good to hear. What do you think the rent would be on a decent 2 BDRM apartment? What do you think a 2 bdrm condo/apartment (nice and about 700 - 900 sq feet) would cost to buy? Thanks, |

Australia is [censored] awesome. If it wasn't for all the snakes and deadly spiders I would move there in a second. I have no idea about living expenses, but did you know they have no pennies because they are smart enough to include tax in the price of things and it's all round numbers? God I hate pennies.
