Hold\'em with weak jokers
i came across this variation, and it seems to increase action without completly unbalancing the game.
if you get a joker in the pocket, it becomes the denomination of the other card with no suit(ie you have a pocket pair). if you had two jokers you would have AA no suits. if a joker appears on the board, it pairs the lowest card on the board at the time its dealt and stays that card for rest of hand. so if the flop came K4joker it would be K44 if the flop was K86, turn a joker, and river a 3. the board would be K8663 |

Re: Hold\'em with weak jokers
Interesting but I would hate to be the guy with 4 of kind that loses to 5 of a kind.
using your example: Flop comes k/4/joker turn comes 4 river comes k The two people in the hand, lets pretend they both went all in on the flop, were holding: K/K and 4/4 respectively. The guy with pocket Kings now loses, since its the best 5 cards that make up a poker hand -- in the case the five 4's that are in play due to the joker being a 4, four of a kind kings now loses lol. Chances of it happening? Very slim - but it could |

Re: Hold\'em with weak jokers
We play that there is no such hand as 5 of a kind, and we play a lot of wild card games. Look at any hand ranking chart, 5 of a kind does not exist.

Re: Hold\'em with weak jokers
Yes I know its not on the hand ranking chart, but an argument could be made in that situation, and since hold 'em in this instance is being played with wild cards -- I think a compelling argument for the 5 of a kind could be made.

Look at any hand ranking chart, 5 of a kind does not exist. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, but neither do jokers. If you change a rule, you kind of need to consider how all the other rules are affected. |

[/ QUOTE ] Actually, I'm pretty sure it will happen MORE often, since you can share the same cards for quads/5K with 2 jokers available and there are 6 Aces or Kings in every deck. Not sure how this changes strategy- it cuts down on straight and flush possibilities. I might treat it somewhat like Omaha, where top pair or a flopped set isn't as strong as it normally would be. I may have to try this in my wild card group and see how it goes. |
