Default Push/fold question

Not sure what to do here.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t600 (5 handed) converter

BB (t4035)
Hero (t1270)
MP (t4175)
Button (t2340)
SB (t1680)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].

Hero?

I'll be called by any pair, any A8+ probably, and the blinds will call with a bit looser. One of those times I need SNGPT I guess.

SNGP says push, unless thir range is very wide
(22+,A2s+,A3o+,KTs+,KJo+,QJs)

However, I do not think you have much FE, so you will prolly be called by a very wide range.

All-in is only 2BB. BB has to call with any 2.

Are you saying that makes this a fold?

This might be a +EV push...and even if it is slightly -EV, it's probably better than what you'll be offered the next hand.

what I usually wind up doing in situations like this though is fold...here's why..
(this is in no way solid advice..but I have yet to discover what is best in this situation, so I go with this)

I doubt you are going to win the blinds...the BB only has to call t670..you do see the occasional fold out of these guys, but probably <15%..and you also have the other 3 guys to consider

if you win that hand, you still pay the BB and SB (although you can pro bably profitably push in the SB)the next two hands which will be nearly half your stack.

I go with the blind all-in in the BB..with the blinds at this level..if you win your BB hand, (if it's agains one of the two shorter stacks, they'll be nearly dead)

anyway, you'll have the same # of chips, but won't have to pay the blinds again (you will have to pay the SB)for a couple hands..also on th hand you will be in the SB..you will being offered great +EV situation on a push most likely.

anyway with blinds so high..I think this will increase the probability that you sneak into 3rd.

those are just my rambling thoughts..

if this play is right, I'm not sure where the mark for hands you could have UTG is to make it right to just push there, instead of fold and play blind in the BB

someone had said that this had been mentioned in harrington on holdem..not sure if it was for big MTTs or STTs..

anyone else do this? Or see a major flaw in this?

It's a -$EV spot, but probably only -0.2% or something. I don't mind a push or a fold, it's close either way to be honest.

What buyin is this?

I guess it all depends on your reads and how badly these guys understand ICM. If there's any chance SB+BB might fold (if they're donks) then this is a push.

Still, it's awfully hard to let this go knowing you'll be all-in on the next hand anyways.

Yup, it's -0.2% if we put BB on 50% and rest on maniac.
If BB calls 100% then it's -1.4%
