Default 10/20 LO8: A funky hand

SH 10/20 on party, 5 players. The game is about to break.

Folds around to me in SB, I raise with A2JT. Aggro slightly loose BB calls.

Flop is Qc Ks Kd.

I bet, she calls.

Turn is Td.

I check intending to call through river

(How is this so far?)

River: Ts

Change of plan. I bet (planning to call a raise)

Turn:I think check-calling is a good play here. You didn't say whether he bet or checked behind you.

River:I'm not following your logic. Why did you decide to bet out when the other 10 came?

I talked to josh about this hand on AIM. I was kind of trying to employ a funky two way play. I thought there was a chance that my bet might be interpreted as trip Ts and I would be raised by worse hands. I was also kind of thinking that trip kings with no kicker might be afraid to value bet there, thinking there wasn't much that I could call with.

This last part was totally wrong; my opponent was aggro and I had play meekly thus far. I'm not going to be a favorite if raised on the river, and my opponent is going to value bet really loosely, given how passively I've played. I will also pick up some bluffs from busted flush draws and floats that I wouldn't if I had bet.

This was kind of confused FPS and a bad river play.

[/ QUOTE ]Your change of plan makes sense. When there are two pairs on the board instead of only one, there's a greater chance of encountering an opponent with trips and less of a chance of encountering an opponent with a full house.

I like your river bet here. Most opponents will pay off with trips in this spot and probably also with the king high straight. Thus by betting your ace high straight you probably collect from anyone with trips or a king high straight. And you might even knock out an opponent with an ace high straight.

With this board you probably don't get raised unless your opponent has KTXY, KKXY, or is bluffing.

I think you generally call if raised for two reasons:
• (1) A very aggressive opponent might bluff-raise here, hoping you will fear the worst and fold anything but quads.
• (2) Betting and then folding to a raise isn't good for your table image.

Buzz - nice post, I wish I could have summed it up that succinctly.

The problem is, I think after being checked to twice this player's value betting range is almost equal to her calling range. Once you add in bluffs, the better money is with check calling, since I don't give up many bets and avoid having to pay off a raise.
