Getting 3-bet with AA/KK
I often see hands posted where people who get into a small tussle preflop go, "I don't think he has AA or KK here because he would have 4-bet it."
Why? With a hand like AA/KK (especially KK) it seems that a 4-bet is a perfect case of "folding out hands you beat." What's he 3-betting you with? Light? Then a 4-bet steals the pot, and you should do it (because light is only going to keep betting if it hits a monster). But standard 3-betting range seems to be pretty much dominated by these two hands, so why 4-bet? Is there a reason? |

Re: Getting 3-bet with AA/KK
2 reasons to 4 bet pre with these hands IMO:
1. 4 bet pre if you think he will call/shove with whatever hand he 3 bet. Most villians who only 3 bet pre with QQ+, AK+, are also calling/shoving over a 4 bet with this range. You lose a ton of value when you call a 3 bet pre with AA, and then villian folds AK on a 348 rainbow flop when he would have got it all in pre. 2. If someone is 3 betting me light and I decide to open up my 4 betting range against him/her, then 4 betting my monsters is mandatory for balance. |
