Default 400 NL, flush draw, river bluff.

Villain is 33/16 over around 100 hands.

I don't really like how I played this hand.

Poker Stars, $2/$4 NL Hold'em Cash Game, 9 Players
LeggoPoker Hand History Converter

Hero (CO): $414.35
BTN: $388
SB: $638
BB: $300
UTG: $400
UTG+1: $320
UTG+2: $213.20
MP1: $1,208.65
MP2: $480

Pre-Flop: 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] dealt to Hero (CO)
4 folds, MP2 raises to $12, Hero calls $12, 2 folds, BB calls $8

Flop: ($38) J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (3 Players)
BB checks, MP2 bets $20, Hero raises to $75, BB folds, MP2 calls $55

Turn: ($188) 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 Players)

I think I should have kept betting here. I may have gotten a fold, and my pair + nfd gives me a lot of outs if he shoves.

River: ($188) 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 Players)
MP2 checks, Hero bets $140
I decide to turn my pair into a bluff. Is this spew?

Yikes, as played I'd prolly just give it up on the turn. Villains like these, you want to take advantage of FE. And if that situation does not arise, I would just play my flush draw passively. You hit a pair here, I'd just check it down against this villain.

On the turn I would've played it fast only if we have any history him. Without any history and just plain stats, i'd prolly check it down. In this case, u only have 100 hands on him, i'd check it down.

I also want to point out that against donkies, they seem to think that any "check" on any street is extreme weakness. That's the reason why I don't like the river bluff.

idk the level of thought your opponent operates at but your bet on the river is "wtf?". You're not really repping an 8 or a 3 and it's hard to believe you'd check behind an overpair or a set on a decent turn just to bet it on a horrible river.

I guess I'm repping some random flush draw with an 8 or 3, or like 75. Yeah, I don't like my play, but I thought he might fold a better 1-pair hand on the river. Probably spew though.

i agree, i don't know what you are repping. a set definately bets this turn if nothing else.

also, OP's and TP hands are going to be very inclined to call your river bet because previously they were going to call your turn bet and fold to a river shove, but now they can just call one street and see if they were beat.

if i raise this flop, i'm betting any turn just to give myself a more believable hand. your hand on the turn looks a lot like weak J, TT, QQ, or something else that got scared. On the river your bet on this kind of board looks like a bluff since you can't possibly hold the straight (8 or 3).

however, that being said, bets on 4 straight boards are rarely bluffs, and are very difficult to call regardless of your holding.

he's more likely to fold to a turn bet than a river bet, and you have more equity when called on the turn than on the river, so....
