How should this be bet? Villain is 16/6.6/3 for 106 hands.

Why did you call the min raise button made? Obviously he has a flush. He was semibluffing on the flop and made it. I would have folded to the min raise or re-raised him. NEVER CALLED IN THAT SPOT.

Well, after the flop comes down he's not a favorite to make the flush or strait draw that he might have. On the other hand, i don't have anything more than ace high. So i called the min raise to see how things would develop, and wound up folding the river when it looked likely that he made his draw. Is that play so bad?

Sometimes when you c-bet, you end up getting raised and the right thing to do is fold. In this case, you have no pair and no draw. Any pair you make is only going to cause you trouble. Just fold. You have no business in the hand at this point.

But, let's take it back a street. ATs isn't a very good hand. It's definitely not the kind of hand you want to play in a raised pot out of position, which is what happens if you raise it in MP2. Seriously, this is a losing proposition. Players in position are going to eat your lunch. They'll show up with better A's when you make top pair. They'll take a lot of pots away. You won't win enough second pair hands and flushes to make up for it.

Against most opponents in a full ring setting, you can keep your EP standards up through the hijack and then start expanding pretty radically. If you check out good player's positional stats when the post them, the will play around 10% of hands up to the hijack and expand to 25-35% of hands on the button. Why is that? Because position is of paramount importance in big bet poker. Quite simply, don't play out of position unless you have a compelling reason. ATs shouldn't compel you.
