Default Banning long-time posters for violations

NT,

Just found out that J_V was banned for a day. I'm sure I know why. I saw his "This is a sweet movie ending, what are others you think are really sweet?" with a YouTube link. When I saw that, I figured that thread would probably be locked and J_V would probably be banned.

I don't disagree that it was a relatively weak OP and based on your rules is banworthy, but not a super big offense. On the other hand, it's the sort of OP that many longtime OOTers are very used to and sometimes end up developing into entertaining list threads.

Anyway, my point here is simply that in the past there has generally been a pretty fair amount of leniency in terms of established longtime solid 2+2 posters when it comes to things like this. If that's no longer the case, I think it's worth making some sort of announcement somewhere about OOT being a zero-tolerance zone or whatever. I don't have any problem if you make that the policy, but based on J_V and NYPlayer reactions, I don't think that's the expectation a lot of valuable contributors have. Seems like aligning expectations here would be a good thing.

i don't think new users should be banned for this type of offense either. seriously? he made an op that didn't fit exactly into OOT's vision and he's blocked from the site? that seems ridiculous to me.

i still give some leniency to long-time posters even though i'm never going to say so outside this forum... sometimes i don't though.

Nation,

While at times I think nt's rules are a little draconian, they are in the sticky. It's a very reasonable expectation that posters read the stickies. If they don't, and [censored] up, I have zero sympathy for what happens to them.

I agree. Fine, delete their post, no biggy, but straight up banning them for a day is just over the top and retarded.
