Trips weak kicker from bb
Villain was 16/9 over a very small sample (<20 hands). How's my line up until the river? I will often lead flop but decided to cr this time.

Re: Trips weak kicker from bb
I think I should mention that he took a long time to call the cr on the flop so at that point I didn't think a big overpair was very likely. The CR on the turn felt so out of place with how he played the flop that I thought it was quite likely I was beat. At the same time he seemed fairly tight so I wasn't sure if he would be raising many hands with a T in so I was basically only putting him on 1 hand - 99.

Re: Trips weak kicker from bb
The fact that he took time on the flop seems to indicate an overpair to me, I'm not sure why you think opposite. He's trying to decide whether or not you have a ten. I think a reasonable range on the turn is probably AA-QQ,99,AT and you are way ahead of his range. I think it's monsters-under-the-bed-syndrome to only put him on one hand here. People (ugh, like me) overplay overpairs like this a lot.

Re: Trips weak kicker from bb
I might be overthinking this but if his pause on the flop was him being afraid of a T then surely he wouldn't be raising the turn with an overpair? His pause on the flop followed by his raise on the turn was what made this hand interesting imo, so I guess I should have included it in the OP.

I think you're definitely overthinking things if you're going to narrow down his range to basically one or two hands.

Re: Trips weak kicker from bb
Maybe he was minraising to see where "he was at" so he could get away cheap if you came over the top. But on the river I'm not sure because I think most tight players would check-behind w/ an overpair.
Edit: It seems to us that it is obvious that hero has a ten here given the way he played. But while the hand is actually happening from villain's POV, it is pretty tough to lay down something like AA or KK post-flop on a not TOO scary board, for most people anyway. |
