odd sized bets....
i often see people putting in very odd sized bets.
For instance, at nl25 a PFR to 85 cents, or 65 cents. maybe a flop bet of $1.35. At NL50 i see PFRs of 1.90, or a flop bet of 3.40. I also just saw $9.95 which is what got me thinking. are they trying offer me a deal that isn't as good as it seems like in the supermarket, or do they want there to be a pile of chips for me to look at rather than a single $10 chip? what do these mean? On stars, on can click the slider until they get to approx percentage of the pot they want to bet. It increases of increments of 25c on nl25 and 50c on nl50 and so on. Why are some people so deliberate? im just interested to know what every1 thinks about this... |

Re: odd sized bets....
The $.85 pfr is actually pretty common at NL25. A pot sized pfr is 3.5BB so I think it's just people getting as close as they can to that.
I know sometimes on the flop I just bet $1.45 or something when I normally bet $1.50 just to do it. Sometimes if the pot is $5.40 or something easily divisible by 3 I'll bet $3.60 because it's 2/3 pot. Just breaks up the monotony I guess but has zero meaning for me. |

Re: odd sized bets....
yeah i used to bet weird amounts. I think it was more of an OCD thing than anthing else, just trying to bet exactly the right amount. It is possible though the seeing more chips has a small subconscious effect of making it look bigger, but it is equally if not more possible that it causes the supermarket effect and seems less expensive.
All in all I don't think it matter too much, though if someone ran some stats with a huge database I would be interested in seeing the results. |

Re: odd sized bets....
85 cents isn't a "weird" preflop sized bet. it's a pot sized bet.

Re: odd sized bets....
As said 85cents is a PSB and then add 25cents for each limper gives you those "odd" numbers, ie 1.10, 1.35...

Re: odd sized bets....
typically a sign that they are using FTS and as such are more than casual players.. adjust accordingly.

Re: odd sized bets....
LOL @ this thread.
I tilt many people with my oddball bet sizes. One of my favorites is raising the 6/2/1 nit $.05 more than the largest round dollar. i.e. Nit has $30.50 stack and bets $5. Kevroc raises to 10.55... calls and loses and is left with 14.95. In my cash games the table is full of people with stacks that end in .95 and in tournies I leave em with 99's. |

Re: odd sized bets....
The dreaded 666 bet size is very effective early in tournaments.

everytime stars updates I hope they put in use of pennies at all stakes . Party was alot funner that way. Betting the same amount every time is boring.

[/ QUOTE ] I would love if FTP did this, I'd be betting all kinds of wacky digits. It kills me how people actually get mad at this. I've been cussed out in many a chatbox over it, lol. |
