As does Duncan Hunter. He's the foil for the conspiracy theory I guess.

Re: CNN links \"Ron Paul\" to Richardson\'s page in story
Can someone explain to a politics noob why this is funny? Are RP's numbers higher then the poll would suggest? If so can someone direct me to a more accurate poll?

[/ QUOTE ] When you run a poll, and ask voters to choose between: 1. Rudy Giuliani 2. Fred Thompson 3. Mitt Romney 4. John McCain 5. Sam Brownback 6. Mike Huckabee 7. Others Where Others is 1. Ron Paul 2. Duncan Hunter 3. Alan Keyes 4. Tom Tancredo 5. John Cox, it's pretty impossible for any candidate under Others to do well. In GOP straw polls, Ron Paul has put up impressive results. He is 26-3 against Rudy, 18-11 against Romney, 16-12 against Thompson, 25-3 against McCain, 24-3-1 against Huckabee, 25-2-1 against Brownback. |

Re: CNN links \"Ron Paul\" to Richardson\'s page in story
It was just funny because when you clicked on Ron Paul's name it linked to Bill Richardson's page. And actually, word came out today that Ron Paul raised a little over $5 million which might match John McCain's total. National polls still have him at 1-4% though.

Or do I not understand the straw poll numbers correctly? |

Re: CNN links \"Ron Paul\" to Richardson\'s page in story
Straw polls are where the local GOP invites people to come down and vote for their candidate. They'll have candidates speak or representatives from the candidates speak and try to raise money for the local GOP in the process.
National polls are where they call a thousand random landlines of people who voted for Bush in 2004, and give them that list in my post in varying orders. Can you see why the results are different? |

[/ QUOTE ] No. Pollsters don't know who the people voted for in the last election and they don't care. Usually, they take the opinions of anyone who says they plan to vote in the 2008 primary. Also, depending on the poll, the pollster will have a more or less complete list that Scary Tiger posted or they won't give the respondant any options at all and require the respondant to remember the candidates names. |
