Why are you check/calling the turn? I'd definitely bet/call the turn. As played, I'd call a shove.

And as played, I'd have definitely CRAI on the turn.

I was trying to get value from QQ/JJ. Those hands can't really stand too many bets and really can't stand a check raise on the turn. I thought check call turn and small bet on river would be more likely to get money from them.

I guess my thinking is the alternative is bet flop, check call turn, bet river.

What am I looking to get a call from by betting flop and turn or check raising the turn?

If you check flop, CRAI turn your line will look very weird, and could looked up with a wider range than you think. I'd bet turn and river though. You checked the flop, many people really don't want to fold JJ/QQ here after a 2 tone flop is checked through.
