Looking for student loans
Do you guys have any advice or suggestions on how to get started on student loans? I'm currently looking at 10k/year tuition.
Thanks, |

Re: Looking for student loans
My OP is a little insufficient so I would like to add that currently my parents are paying for school. And that they might bail on me soon. Also I haven't done the FAFSA form, but is that really necessary to get a student loan?
Thanks |

Re: Looking for student loans
I'm assuming you're undergrad. This is probably going to be shocking advice, but maybe you should go meet with someone in the Financial Aid office. There are plenty of private lenders that you can get deferred loans from, assuming your parents will at least cosign.
Why are your parents going to cut off support? |

Re: Looking for student loans
Another thing, if they tell you that you need to get a loan from a bank or outside lender, at rates not set by government or without the gov't subsidizing the interest while you're in school, shop around. Check out fatwallet and other sites for the best rates. Schools often have "preferred lenders" which basically means, the school gets some benefit for directing students there. This used to be worse, but it still exists since its easier for school if everyone has same lender, but might be worse for you.
