NL 100, TPTK against a LAG. get in okay?
Villain is bigjames82(anyone played him before? I can't believe I've never won a single pot from this aggro donk) 48/17 out of 141 hands, been tangling with him with many pots earlier (and he always won ). Then this hand occurred. According to his stat, TPTK here getting in okay right? since the SPR is alreayd around 6 against a LAG.

Meh, didn't see stacksizes. Call and get it in on the turn.

I think this is fine. When I'm playing a 3-bet pot vs a lag then TPTK is pretty much the nuts to me. Even though the stacks are semi-deep, your raise is basically a little bit bigger than a pot-sized raise so it's not necessary to call and wait for the turn. Also, there are a ton of horrible turns that might give villain more room to outplay us.

I'm a little new to no limit....so much of my thinking comes for book theory. As I understand it against a Lagy player the idea is to keep a pot with out an umaid hand small pre flop and when you hit value bet him to death.
AK type hands over a Lagy pre flop rase are perfecft for this....why rr pre flop??? he's going to call any way post flop ...let him make bigger mistakes if you hit. |

[ QUOTE ]
As I understand it against a Lagy player the idea is to keep a pot with out an umaid hand small pre flop and when you hit value bet him to death. [/ QUOTE ] This is typical nitty/bad book-thinking. We have a very strong hand that has a lot of value, and since villain is a lag his opening range is huge. Therefore we have a great equity advantage and should try to press that advantage as much as we can. This we accomplish by reraising preflop. It is fine to just flat call this from time to time, but you are giving up value when you do. If he calls the re-raise, he will have to give up to a c-bet on most flops, and if he has some trashy dominated hand like KTo we will often stack him when he hits top pair. If we don't re-raise, we let him play his game where he'll often take the pot away form us with a worse hand, and when we hit he'll often get away without putting to much money in the pot. LAG does not necessarily mean calling station. Many lags call/raise too much when the pot is small, but when the big bets go in they either have the goods or know how to get away. |
