Default Which processor should I get?

what do you guys think of instead of getting this processor

getting this one

and overclocking it easily to 2.4-3 ghz according to the review.

onyl diff i see is the shared cache and the first one is a core 2 duo, other is just dual core. not sure what the diff exactly is there. but i could use the extra for other things on the computer

The core 2 duo is a better architecture. Even overclocking the other chip won't match the performance of the c2d.

There is none, you get two cpu's in one in both cases.

In that case I got an old dual Xeon machine to sell you.

The difference between Core2 Duo and Pentium Dual-Core?

They are both the same architecture. They are the same dual-core design, but the Pentium Dual-Core is fused down to 1MB of on-board cache vs 2MB or 4MB on the Core 2 Duo line. The FSB speed of the PDC is also limited to 800Mhz where it up to 1333MHz on the C2D.

Pentium Dual-Core is a value brand that fits between single core celeron processors (now also based on the C2D architecture in a single core chip) and the Core 2 Duo line.

Do not confuse Pentium Dual-Core with Pentium D. Pentium D is dual P4 processors in one package.

Here are some benchmarks

The C2D is a much better performer

even after overclocking it to 3 ghz, it would still be slower then that other processor?

it is hard to say what the performance would be like overclocked compared to the C2D.
