Default Shoes.

Need new shoes, size is sort of an issue, need 14. Basic shoes needed for eliptical machine, stationary bikes, no treadmill as I have bad knees, occassionally basketball. For lifting just the typical standing excercises on various days, suggestions?

For lifting, I prefer hard, flat-soled shoes with minimal cushioning. This is because squatting heavy weights on a slightly squishy surface (like running shoes) is kind of retarded. I imagine shoes don't matter much for the elliptical and stationary bikes.

Basketball should be played with basketball shoes. Some are cushioned with air, some are not. I suppose if you don't mind wearing harder-soled basketball shoes that they would double just fine for lifting. I wear some older Huarache 64s that would probably be okay for this, but I try not to wear out basketball shoes doing things other than playing basketball.

Anyway, I've lifted in Chuck Taylors, Onitsuka Tigers (white and brown looks sweeeet), and Nike Free 7.0 Trainers. All three are fine shoes. The Nike Frees are my preferred all-purpose workout shoe nowadays. The Onitsuka Tigers are awesome-looking and very breathable. Chucks are perfect for squatting/deadlifting.

I did tons of dead lifting and squatting in high school, i played offensive line for football. Doing such high weight along with other things has really hurt my back and knees, and I prefer to workout my legs and back in other ways.

Having big feet must suck. I'm having a hard time finding Nike Frees in larger sizes, but I did find it in size 15. Optionally, you can try customizing your own size 14 pair at NikeiD. I recommend you go half a size above what you normally wear, just to be safe. Let us know if you find a good place for big shoes.

One day, when I'm baller, I'm going to buy so many customized pairs of Frees.

I wonder how many people have been screwed up for life by bad high school football coaches that didn't teach them to lift correctly.

I knew the correct technique, but at certain weights I really couldnt maintain perfect form. And "maxxing out" is probably what did a lot of damage, not to mention just being a big guy playing lots of football.
