Can i turn my hand face up while deciding to call an all in?

Situation:

Me and one other player heads up on river. Pot is about 200. He goes all in for his last 260 or so.

Can i legally turn my hand face up while i decide to call to make a read? Or is this angleing?

it varies by casino, foxwoods yes but i think most places u are not allowed is usually the response on here

I had KK and the board had 2 queens. I put this guy on 2 face cards, and i was worried he maybe made trips on the queen river. I turned my cards face up while looking at the guy to see if i could get anything out of him. I was most likely going to call, but i wanted to be sure.

Dealer reachers over, and mucks my hand out from under a fingerof mine on top of each card. Guy turns over king ten for a missed straight draw and takes the pot. Dealer told me my hand was dead as i turned them face up.

2. Procedure for an exposed card varies with the poker form, and is given in the section for each game. A card that is flashed by a dealer is treated as an exposed card. A card that is flashed by a player will play. To obtain a ruling on whether a card was exposed and should be replaced, a player should announce that the card was flashed or exposed before looking at it. A downcard dealt off the table is an exposed card.


Also, int his whole section it says nothing about a hand becoming dead because they are turned face up:

DEAD HANDS

1. Your hand is declared dead if:

(a) You fold or announce that you are folding when facing a bet or a raise.

(b) You throw your hand away in a forward motion causing another player to act behind you (even if not facing a bet).

(c) In stud, when facing a bet, you pick your upcards off the table, turn your upcards facedown, or mix your upcards and downcards together.

(d) The hand does not contain the proper number of cards for that particular game (except at stud a hand missing the final card may be ruled live, and at lowball and draw high a hand with too few cards before the draw is live). [See Section 16 - “ Explanations,” discussion #4, for more information on the stud portion of this rule.]

(e) You act on a hand with a joker as a holecard in a game not using a joker. (A player who acts on a hand without looking at a card assumes the liability of finding an improper card, as given in Irregularities, rule #8.)

(f) You have the clock on you when facing a bet or raise and exceed the specified time limit.

2. Cards thrown into the muck may be ruled dead. However, a hand that is clearly identifiable may be retrieved at management’s discretion if doing so is in the best interest of the game. We will make an extra effort to rule a hand retrievable if it was folded as a result of incorrect information given to the player.

3. Cards thrown into another player’s hand are dead, whether they are faceup or facedown.

Were you all-in in a tourney or cash game? I think the rule you are linking to applies to cash games. In tourneys it is generally a no-no to show your cards to anyone, but house rules may vary for casinos....

For cash games, this does vary a lot by casino, its alwasy worth asking the floor about when visiting a casino for the first time (or going to one you havent been in awhile) if you intend to use this

Varies by room. I accidentally turned my cards face up on the turn in a cash game and played out the hand.

Always ask the dealer before doing this if you don't know the room's policy

In general we use Robert's Rules of Poker around here as the default standard. Its probably the most accurate rule set across the board since it was derived from the Hilton rulebook, most rooms across the nation conform the majority of their rules to statements in Robert's Rules (Robert is Bob Ciafone). Of course local rules put in place by the house should be the final standard, but at least you can turn to Robert's Rules to compare it to a base set of rules.

With that said if you need to turn over your cards to get a read on your opponent as your primary decision factor then your missing out on the REM process for NL Hold'em - Pick up Professional NL Hold'em published by 2+2, it will be an eye opener!

in the situation you describe--cash game, hu at the river--turning your hand face-up while making your decision is almost always fine. the bellagio instituted a rule maybe 6 months ago to prohibit this, which was widely ridiculed by most of the cash game players there, but even with their retarded new rule they won't declare your hand dead the first time it happens, you get a warning.
