Default When is it right to play AXs

so i couldent find any threds on this when i looked so ill just ask it here.

when is it right to play AXs in limit?

im sure this answer differes on the situation like A9s should be an open raise in late position (right?). one question is can you limp A2s from UTG and UTG+1 in a passive game? then dump if you dont hit the flush draw?

is AXs only a good play from late position, or should you only play if you have 4+ players for 2 or less bets?

im sure the first answer ill get is "it depends" and i understand that. but im still a big time looser and cant find my leaks or improve my play so im asking for some guideance.

i ask because im looking at my OP stats and cant figure out why im a net loss -0.04/hand on my AKs (20 actual hands) and a winner of 0.03/hand with A4s (22 actual hands)(after ~8500 ahnds)

hope the question is clear.
-Riley

you might want to try beginners forum.

I openraise AXo from UTG. I can also fold AQo to a raise from a person with a solid raising range, but I will 3-bet a LAG.

the point is that the pre-flop play with AX is pretty simple at the micro level... the post flop play is hard and thats where you are spewing mobnies.

Look in the FAQs for micro limit library and overcard compilations.

have fun

If you are losing with AXs then stop playing it.

Of course the answer is "it depends," that is the same for pretty much every question in poker. The more you play the more comfortable you will be recognizing the table conditions needed to play these hands from any position, limping or raising.

So start thinking about the qualities of these hands; some high card power, but it's worrisome because of kicker issues. Very little straight power, lots of flush power.

You'd love to get these folded to in late position, they are nice to steal with. You'd love to get these in early position at a loose passive table where you can see a flop cheap and get called down with a toaster by the calling stations.
You don't care for them so much in early position with a table full of nits, although when people complain about their AA-QQ hands winning the blinds when they raise from EP, these are certainly the hands to expand you open raising with from EP.

Yes, it depends, and there is no shame removing them from your bag until you are more comfortable playing them.

holy crap, u serious??!

I wouldn't even open any A UTG on a 6max tbl. FWIW I fold a fair few suited aces there as well.

I'm surprised Gib didn't include the first part. Context is funny?

I play Ax** in loose passive games all the time when I think a particular hand is going to be quite multiway....there are some perhaps subtle things here
1. open limping UTG is NOT the same as open limping in MP
2. limping after a limper when UTG+2 is not the same as limping after a limper when in CO.
3. limping UTG+2 at table 1 can be +EV but limping it at table 2 can be -EV because table 1 != table 2. ducy?
4. meh...1 and 3 are enough
edit: ** and by Ax I really mean AxSuited

the point is that it always depends and the more hands you play the better you get better at working out when to play it and when to not. failing that, at the micros when there isnt much monies at stake you can learn alot by playing AxSooted and even if you lose you should get some lessons that stand you in good stead when you move up.

btw when play Axsooted in EP I really hope to flop 2 pair or better but I wont auto give up on an Axx flop.
