stupid move by me a a home game
I blew this one, atleast I think.
6 man sitngo pays top two $80 and $40 starting chips T2000 Down to three and I'm the button Remaining chips guessamate SB T1800 BB T8000 Button (me) T2200 Blinds at 200 and 400 I have A8 suit and raise to T800 BB moves all in and SB goes aswell. Reads BB is TAG, new to poker but does well SB used to be a real LAG but has tighten some it up in the past 6 months. I think about calling, I think the BB has me beat and fold. I regret folding afterwards as ,as long as either the BB or mylself win we would knock the other guy out putting me ITM. I think I worried too much if the SB wins the hand, I'm dead in the water. I think I should of gone allin preflop with a hand like I had. I was doing ok in the game chip wise, took a couple of loses when we were down to three. What would you guys of done? |

Re: stupid move by me a a home game
I would have pushed. You were in a push or fold situation (aka less than 10 big blinds), and I would not fold that hand. As played, I would have called. My logic on the call is similar to the thinking that you expressed in your post. If SB is decent at all, then he could be raising light since your play looks a bit weak in the circumstance. However, Big stack almost always has some kind of a hand here. He has to be loving the fold equity he is getting with these chip stacks, and would be very dumb to risk that position by calling light here.

Re: stupid move by me a a home game
That was an auto raise AI instead of a min raise. SB should have acted next, not like you wrote it. If he goes AI and then BB goes AI and you want to make the money then fold because BB should have a good hand here. But you'll only have 1400 left so you'll be pushing the next hand or the hand after. But I'd probably just call it and hope to triple up.

Re: stupid move by me a a home game
I agree with everything you wrote, except for the BB acting before the SB.
With 5BB that's a push situation, what did you hope to accomplish with a min-raise with a shorty and a huge stack still to act? |

Re: stupid move by me a a home game
As played I think you should call here with any two, and it has nothing to do with the cards. You have the SB covered, so either you win the hand and knock out the SB and guarantee yourself at least second place money with the chip lead, the BB wins and knocks you both out and you earn second place money, or the SB wins and you are (beyond) crippled. With two of three results being favorable to you, I say call off your stack let the cards decide it.

Raise to 800 is a mistake there. Push or fold.

Re: stupid move by me a a home game
Thanks for pointing out the mixup with blinds. I was the button and the next player, the big stack was the SB, the other short stack was the BB.
