doing karate again...

BRAG: Started doing karate again after an 8 year lay-off.
was a black-belt at my old full-contact school.
new teacher awards me red belt ( right below black )

BEAT: sparred with a bunch of teenagers yesterday...

a.) Got KITN
b.) Got kicked in the jaw

VARIANCE: taught a class. really womped on the pre-teens though.
made me think about that one forum where they asked
"how many 5-year-old's could you beat in a fight to the death?"

after that class, i'm guessing a lot less...

do you guys do full contact sparring?

punches to the head allowed?

Any wrestling/grappling training?

Do you learn any secret death moves that you can't actually pull off or show people because it would kill them?

Any submission stuff?

Do you frequently use spinning back kicks or hop on one leg?

But, there's a chance this karate is legit. I know of a couple kinds of karate that are pretty good. Most suck.

ugh, thread makes me wish i never stopped taking karate. i took shaolin kempo for probably a year and a half (achieved brown w/ black stripe.) i remember the first day i ever went, i was such a punk the teacher literally picked me up by my belt and took me into the hallway and reamed me out, i think i pissed my pants a little. not only was it just awesome to learn the [censored] and spar, it really straightened me out. i progressed v v fast and eventually was one of the few students invited into a special program where you get a sick ass blue gi and you're basically a badass in the dojo. but you have to go through a whole process where you get parents/friends/teachers to basically vouch/write all this stuff about you, and numerous other [censored]. i forget why but i basically just stopped going at some point even though i was like half done with the process. i definitely would reccomend to anyone / consider taking karate again, although i would probably get into something more along the lines of ju-jitsu now.
