Re: \"Folding the nuts\" article, pretty bad i think
His advice is pretty good. I don't think I'd fold the second hand myself, but I can see why I might be wrong to continue. Thing is though it's fairly rare to come across a situation where it's correct to fold the low nuts (high nuts is a different story) - if you never folded a made nut low (in limit) it wouldn't be much of a leak in your game.

i totally agree. being quartered or blanked in the situation he
outlined in the first hand is very likely. if the 4th player sticks around and is the fish, then you still only break even. in the 2nd example, definitely proceed with caution, as he outlined. heavy opposition probably has the made straight as well as a decent low, decent flush draw, and or trips already. m2c |

If you think you're getting quartered then its correct to fold to a pot sized bet on the river, and clearly its correct to fold before the river(assuming you don't have any decent high draws). |

Re: \"Folding the nuts\" article, pretty bad i think
Well, I was talking specifically about limit. It does come up much more often in pot limit that you should fold the nut low. I still have a lot of trouble folding the nut low myself and it's clearly a leak in my pot limit game; probably one of the reasons I'm only winning 2BB/100 on average across all limits...

Re: \"Folding the nuts\" article, pretty bad i think
I don't think it very much matters PL or Limit. If you've got no other low backup or high draw and its deadly obvious at least once other A2 is out there, save the money.
Now if you have something like A234 - it might be profitable to stay because you're covered on lows so that if that [*!@#* deuce falls, you're covered to take the low etc. |

Re: \"Folding the nuts\" article, pretty bad i think
Yes... but the problem is that by the time it's deadly obvious that another nut low is out there, it often doesn't make sense to fold. Plus in an aggressive limit game it will be hard to achieve certainty that someone else has the nut low.
As for it not mattering (limit vs pot limit), I disagree strongly. Often you need the turn and possibly even river betting to be really sure that someone else has the nut low. If you're facing a pot-sized river bet and going to get quartered, folding makes sense. In limit (unless you're getting whipsawed between two raisers) you would pretty much never have a situation where you'd fold to a river bet with the nut low. The decision would have to be made on the flop, where you rarely have enough information. |
