Free Money From Stupid Cashier?

Some buddies and I were at a hamburger place for dinner tonight. One of them paid with a 10 dollar bill, but the cashier typed in 100 dollars as the bill being paid with, as 92 dollars and xx cents came up on the change display on the cash register.

She paid him the correct change for 10 dollars. On the receipt it says 100 dollars was the amount paid, with 92.XX in change, when he really just received the 2.XX in change. Not being a scammer or a dick, he didn't pursue anything or mention it.

If he had asked or yelled or asked to see the manager, could he have gotten the extra 90 bucks?

He wouldn't get the 90 bucks unless the cashier is dumb. If she gave the extra money, then the register would be off. As is the register is fine.

Did it ever occur to anyone in your think tank that the cashier accidentally hit the 0 one too many times but knew it, so being smarter than you, did the math real real quick in her head and provided correct change?

Can you imagine a scenario where your buddy 'pursues' the issue and is laughed at roundly by both the cashier and manager for one of the most retarded attempted scams in history?

What I do is usually just pay with $100 bills and after I get my change I hide it and tell the cashier that he never gave me my change.

sounds like the '0' button on the register has a loose solder joint in the debounce circuitry. this would be the real reason for ever calling over the manager...
