Default Steal battle from BB

The player in the SB is new to my database, I don't have a read yet. I don't believe that he necessarily has a king so I think my 7 and J outs might be good. So with that said, hows my turn call? Do any of you think my J and 7 outs might be good? Do most of you call that against a guy without reads? How about my line in general, raising the gut and overs and then betting the turn? Any input is welcome thanks.

I'd consider calling flop, but overall you played the hand fine.

I am still learning shorthanded so take it for what it's worth, but why don't we take our free card on the turn? It's not likely that we are ahead of anything on the turn unless we have reads.

I guess I always default that people tell the truth until I see otherwise. Perhaps it's results oriented thinking, but when ever I tend not to believe someone when they indicate strength and they are unknown, I usually get pwned for a few bets.

bruce, it's because ace high might fold, queen high folds, better jacks fold, and he has worse hands in his range that might bluff the river if we check behind on the turn (J4s, T9, T8, T7, 98, 97, 87). if you want to check the turn, you should just minimize your investment in this hand from the beginning - don't raise the flop. but if you raise the flop, the pot is usually always at a size where you want to bet a non-showdown"able" hand on the turn.

edit: i reread this and i like how i said "usually always," lol.

Bruce.

Miles already said it.

Dont raise for free cards HU!!!

If you dont have FE dont raise the flop.

If you have FE dont take free card because the value of him folding either a better hand or a worse hand that will bluff you of the pot later on, has more value than a free card in a tiny pot.
