Default 360 screen resolution question

Hi!

I've hooked up my 360 Elite via the HDMI cable and a DVI-Adapter to my 22" flat screen monitor. This monitor has a maximum resolution of 1680x1050, it's widescreen. It also supports 1280x1024 and smaller.

So because it has a maximum vertical resolution of 1050, it doesn't support 1080p, right? I was wondering what I should set my xbox to. I have it now running in 1280x1024, but I don't know if that is correct. The xbox has resolutions like 1024x768 etc. What am I supposed to take? I don't want to risk that I lack game performance because I have the resolution too high while the game doesn't support it anyway, so I can turn it down to something more efficient.

Does anybody know stuff like that?

I'm not sure what your 360 is actually running at, but for 1080p you need 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Since my monitor only supports a 1680x1050, I can't choose the 1080p resolution. I have it now running at 1360x768 which seems to be the biggest widescreen resolution that the xbox supports and Gears of War looks very nice and there is no tearing or anything like that. So I will leave it there.
