Winning or Drawing - Live Tourney
Small buy in live multi table. We have just entered the money and I have a comfortable chip position. 9 person table folded to me in mp2 and I pick up As8h. I have the rest of the table covered but have just gotten here so I have no reads. I have been sucessfully stealing with pot sized bets. BB is 2000 and the ante is 400 so I raised to 7,000 but get called by the button. The flop includes 2 spades 9 hi and we check. The turn is the 8s and I bet the pot with 20000 leaving me about 90,000. The button has 70,000 and makes a mini raise to 40,000.
I reason that the button does not have a 9 or an overpair or a set from the betting so I am winning or drawing to a flush. What now? |

Re: Winning or Drawing - Live Tourney
I think he has you beat. Set, overpair like TT are likely. He is putting in half of his stack. Also, he probably would have made the move on the flop with position but chose to wait. Less likely but Ks is a possibility I guess.

Re: Winning or Drawing - Live Tourney
Not sure why you figure he doesn't have a set, but you're getting 4 to 1 to call, and at the absolute worst you have 16% equity. Also, since he put in more than half his stack he isn't folding to another bet, so your implied odds should cover the difference if you hit.
Your options are shove now or call now with the intention of check/folding the river. Both have their merits -- the only play I think you shouldn't make is to fold. Oh, and fold preflop. |
