Default $5/$10: heads up hand- simple pre-flop situation

I have AJ on the button. stacks both around $1,000 as we just started playing a few minutes ago. Villain seems like solid player, pretty tight, but has 3 bet me a handful of times already. I rarely play heads up, so this is a pretty simple hand/answer, but curious to see more in depth thought process.

I have AJ and I raise, he 3 bets me and I 4 bet. After I did this I figured it made a lot more sense to just call here. People who play a lot of HU, what's your thoughts on calling or 4 betting, and your plan with each?

4 bet/call semibluffs (such as AJ) but have pure bluffs and monsters AA-JJ way more often.

4-betting AJ sucks. just call.

It really depends on alot of factors. Is he firing the flop or is he just going to give up? Has he caught u bluffing? Whats his view of you?

Also it really depends on what the flop is because alot of lines are very board dependent HU.

Basically there really is no easy answer here, also alot of HU is like that. Reason why there are so few very very good HU players.

Also even if you call then fold a very unfavourable flop, calling helps. Calling his preflop 3bet should slow him down for the next 15 or so hands in my experience.

He is solid and you never play HU. You are playing in this game why? In any case, either calling or reraising is fine. But if you're reraising, you better be calling a push with fist pump.

i don't ever 4bet. that's how i preserve shania er however you wanna phrase it.

however, occasionally i do if some guy goes nuts with 3betting me. i feel like those guys will make bad calls bc they use the rationale "well, i've been 3-betting him a lot, he's prolly making a play out of frustration." as opposed to "hmmmm he hasn't 4bet me the entire game...maybe he has something."

you preserve shania by excluding one possible action? have you ever met shania? what you're doing does NOT make her happy...
