Pre-flop fundamentals - NL25 - Premium pockets from late position
Hey all.
Hoping for some comments as to general ABC play here. I know poker is always situation dependent, but let's stick to generalities for this thread. Our aim, pre-flop, when we hit a big pocket, is to isolate one other player, correct? The reason is that these hands have the most equity against one other player. I have noticed that I 3bet pre-flop QQ-AA almost 100% of the time [unless the raiser is a total nit]. The result is very often that I take the pot [maybe 70% of the time]. I get a caller, by my estimate, about 30% of the time. I think this is a leak. Since the main aim is to isolate one player, then isn't calling with these hands against one raiser a better play from late position, or the blinds? I guess this is dependent on whether we can be fairly sure that the players acting after us will fold instead of call. Comments on playing the premium pockets pre-flop after a raise? |

You dont play AA to isolate, you play it get get value. Isolate with random crap like 97s. And I have not yet figured a better way to get value than to raise. If you have, please share

Re: Pre-flop fundamentals - NL25 - Premium pockets from late position
If people are folding too much to your 3bets, start 3betting them with a wider range. But I think it's fine to flatcall a raise with TT+ in position every so often, especially against people with a really tight 3bet calling range.

3betting lighter than i normally do is something that i've been working on doing more regularly.

Finding the fine line between losing value from overly-light 3-bets, and gaining value by winning callers for your bigger hands is the key. |
