4/180 - UTG All In From a Short Stack
UTG raises obviously signify strength usually. But when a short stack goes all in UTG I sometimes find he's actually got a huge range - not just because of his M, but because he wants to get it all in before he goes through the blinds again. Here the villain has an M of ~5.5, still, A9 is a marginal holding, is it good enough? If not, what's your minimum here? Blinds are 300/600, villain is 17/9 VPIP/PFR over 200, so is on the tightish side. PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t600 (7 handed) internettexasholdem.com SB (t14274) Hero (t31018) UTG (t6671) MP1 (t23025) MP2 (t6647) CO (t15519) Button (t19301) Preflop: Hero is BB with A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. UTG raises to t6621, 5 folds, Hero ? |

Re: 4/180 - UTG All In From a Short Stack
given your stack, I would definately call it... Like you said his M is low and the blinds are on him in the next hand - - He could be pushing some weak hands here (although not complete crap, as he is UTG) and A9s is a pretty good hand in this situation. You posted the big blind, so the pot odds here are good if he pushed a small pair, ace-small lower than 9, or king high and less. I'd go for it...

Re: 4/180 - UTG All In From a Short Stack
what's the ante here? 50? so pot is around 1250 to begin with.
you have to call 6000 to win 7800, or 1.3-1 If anyone wants to assign an actual range, please go ahead. That said having such a big stack we can afford calling here without even losing our table leader position, and we have a really good chance of actually being ahead so our odds seem ok. If I had only 10k I would clearly fold this (since a loss would cripple us and the edge is not likely to be huge), with 30k it turns into a call for me. How many players are left actually? around 20 I guess? |

Re: 4/180 - UTG All In From a Short Stack
Chh - the ante was 50 so pot odds are around 43% which makes calling very attractive.
I have to disagree with you on what you say about stack size - if I think I have any edge I will call even if losing means I go out. Good question on how many are left - there was 3 tables left I think, so we're getting near the bubble. This obviously matters as this may tighten UTG's range a bit, given the average 4/180 player is overly concerned with their tournament life. |

Re: 4/180 - UTG All In From a Short Stack
Cheburashka that range looks pretty reasonable to me, taking villain's M, stats, buy in and the bubble factor into account.
So we have 44% equity with 43% pot odds. So easy call |

[ QUOTE ] I have to disagree with you on what you say about stack size - if I think I have any edge I will call even if losing means I go out. [/ QUOTE ] well it depends on what you call edge. But I'm not calling here with a 10k stack and find myself crippled when I lose when it's actually 44% pot odds and 43% against his range, because I'm confident that with a 10k stack I can find a better situation, where as losing this hand basically puts me into push/fold mode. With a big stack however I will obviously take whatever small edge there is. QFT [/ QUOTE ] |
