? on Pockets - PF play
Was just wondering - do you guys typically PFR with pockets below 99? Considering that I'll only flop a set like 11% or something and lose all the rest, I usually just call preflop. Sound or not?

Re: ? on Pockets - PF play
1. What is your position?
2. What is the cast of characters? 3. Why do you assume you lose every single time you don't hit a set? Don't tell me you've never PFR'd with AK, whiffed the flop, but cbet and took it down anyway. |

Re: ? on Pockets - PF play
depends... sometimes call, raise, or fold.
What position? - The later the position, the more likely to open raise What is the table like? - The looser the table, the more likely I am to limp If the the table is uber tight, folding small PPs in EP-MP is usually correct if no one has entered before you. |

Re: ? on Pockets - PF play
The thing is at the .05-.10 tables it tends to be fairly loose so 40-50% usually stay in to see the flop. I just don't see my chances as very high while while playing 3-4 more guys with a low pair, especially oop.
so, 1. we'll assume somewhere around MP just for sake of discussion 2. loose - many will call to see flop 3. lots of players playing |

BTW, welcome to the forums. |

Re: ? on Pockets - PF play
Not.
A. Assuming that you lose when a pp doesn't flop a set is dumb. B. The expectation of raising a pp before the flop depends soooo much on a number of factors that you have not mentioned or asked about: your position, how many players are in, how loose the game is PF, how loose the game is post-flop, etc. These factors change the nature of how pp's or to be played drastically. Against a single nit limper and no habitual cold-collers, I'll raise 22 LP to isolate and take it down on the flop. At a very tough table, I'll open fold 77 EP. |

Re: ? on Pockets - PF play
Under these conditions, my default is:
Raise TT+ for equity. Call 22-99. If you don't suck, you can throw a raise in with 99 or even 88. In these conditions, almost never raise 22-77. |

Re: ? on Pockets - PF play
All I know is raising 44 in the BB 8ways at 3/6 live games is wrong.
EDIT: Even moreso when you turn on pattern mapperz and know you will flop a set. |
