Default NL$200 (2 hands)| is my play too weak

First Hand

Villain is 22/18/5 ~ 475 hands

Full Tilt Poker - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $1/$2 Blinds - 5 Players - (LegoPoker Hand History Converter)

SB: $209.70
BB: $199.20
Hero (UTG): $481.95
CO: $391.35
BTN: $234.30

Preflop: Hero is dealt A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 Players)
<font color="red">Hero raises to $7.00</font>, CO calls $7.00, 3 folds

Flop: ($17) J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 Players)
<font color="red">Hero bets $12.00</font>, <font color="red">CO raises to $38.00</font>, Hero folds
Uncalled bet of $26.00 returned to CO

Pot Size: $41.00 ($2.05 Rake)

I took the decision to not get involved on account of the fact that I had TPTK, OOP with deep stacks. It was a sort of 'safety' fold given I was uncertain about my hand and my play at the moment (a little rusty). It seems like a very weak fold though - what should be my line with AJ here and my strategy in response to likely actions from villain on the turn and/or river.

Second Hand

Villain is 21/16/7.5 ~ 235

Full Tilt Poker - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $1/$2 Blinds - 5 Players - (LegoPoker Hand History Converter)

Hero (SB): $196.70
BB: $229.60
UTG: $227.55
CO: $166.25
BTN: $200.80

Preflop: Hero is dealt J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 Players)
<font color="red">UTG raises to $8.00</font>, 2 folds, <font color="red">Hero raises to $26.00</font>, BB folds, <font color="red">UTG raises to $80.00</font>, Hero folds
Uncalled bet of $54.00 returned to UTG

Pot Size: $54.00

Is this fold weak or standard? Who calls here and who shoves?

My overarching reason for posting these two hands is that generally when I play poker I know what to do unless it's a real headscratcher of a hand. These two are standard hands but I felt myself in a no-mans land as to what to do.

FWIW I play around 21/17/4 and both villains should have a flavour for that by the time the hands were played.

Thanks

Hand 1 I probably call and play poker on the turn. There are a number of straight draws out there.

Hand 2 looks good.

I know, I know. It ain't good. Truthfully I wanted position against a shorter stack. When I was raising 56o and small-mid PP's I was begging for this guy to call me.

Hand 1 really is not that weak IMO. Purely player dependent, against the majority of players the line you took was the correct one.

Hand 2 is the same, against some opponents going AI with JJ is fine, against most, you made the right decision.
