i just bought $15k of Jones Soda stock

new candies are out, new energy drinks will be out by winter, so i jumped in. loved the company for a long time, i expect good things over the next couple years, much like the last couple.

Jones Soda had less than $40mm in total sales last year. They need to eventually make a profit of $50mm to justify what you are paying for them.

I almost bought JSDA when it was a Motley Fool Hidden Gems recommendation back in late '05. Wish I had, can't believe it can sustain this current price.

The place I worked looked at Jones as a Possible acquisition target for a very large client within the last year. Pretty much can't be done b/c no drinks business will sell for 10x revenues unless it is very small or in a high growth market (e.g. energy drinks two years ago). I think it is overvalued no matter how "good" its products are. If Coke, Dr. Pepper/7UP, Cadbury, Pepsi, Nestle, etc. don't want them at that price even though they occupy the currently very desirable high end soft drink market, why are investors paying it?

it was at like $32 3 months ago.... and is now at half that. their candies are out and distributed now and they just got the rights to pharma gaba, some chinese energy stuff thats going to allow them to finally take a crack at this energy drink craze. overvalued or not, i think theres still money to be made. its not impossible, its been done a thousand times before, and i think this is one of those chances if you keep a good eye on the stock.

Not saying that you can't necessarily win as a short term momentum play, but I don't like this as a long term value investment. Then again I felt that Apple was overvalued at $60 and just bought more at $110. So if you think this stock will appreciate due to their "hip products", energy business, etc., then it could be a good play. I don't know enough to make this evaluating, but you may.
