Preflop help required (hands)
Here's a few preflop hands I wasn't sure about.
HAND 1) A trashy KK OOP, I figure I'm calling only for the set here and I'm not sure it would be a good call. I read a NLHE article which said somthing like you need 11.7 times implied odds on hitting a set, but in PLO it's much more likely that if the flop is 3flush or something like 789, I am often behind, so I don't know what implied odds I need to hit the set in PLO but I guess it's maybe 20 times, which is the average you would need so it must be best to fold. PokerStars Pot-Limit Omaha High, $0.50 BB (6 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums) MP ($144.35) CO ($51.75) Button ($40.40) SB ($45.95) Hero ($50) UTG ($67) Preflop: Hero is BB with K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. UTG calls $0.50, 1 fold, CO raises to $2, 1 fold, SB calls $1.75, 1 fold, UTG calls $1.50. HAND 2) This one I think I should probably have called because 6 handed it's less likely the hand is totally dominated and there are some very weak players in these games. PokerStars Pot-Limit Omaha High, $0.50 BB (5 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums) SB ($144.30) BB ($47.35) UTG ($49.75) Hero ($48.25) Button ($54.45) Preflop: Hero is MP with 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. UTG calls $0.50, Hero calls $0.50, Button raises to $2.75, SB calls $2.50, 1 fold, UTG calls $2.25, Hero folds. HAND 3) This one was probably a bit loose. Raiser is a fish. PokerStars Pot-Limit Omaha High, $0.50 BB (4 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums) BB ($89.85) UTG ($98.45) Button ($29.20) Hero ($48.70) Preflop: Hero is SB with 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. UTG calls $0.50, Button raises to $2, Hero calls $1.75, BB calls $1.50, UTG calls $1.50. HAND 4) What about calling this? If I hit big it will not be a hand they are expecting( apart from the flush) and I will likely get paid off. But I guess I will totally miss most flops but I am closing the action and there are 3 in already. PokerStars Pot-Limit Omaha High, $0.50 BB (6 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums) Button ($66.15) SB ($30.55) BB ($63.80) UTG ($23.35) MP ($46) Hero ($48.50) Preflop: Hero is CO with 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. UTG calls $0.50, 1 fold, Hero calls $0.50, Button raises to $2.5, 1 fold, BB calls $2, UTG calls $2, Hero folds. HAND 5) This was a terrible fold, right? PokerStars Pot-Limit Omaha High, $0.50 BB (6 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums) UTG ($74.95) MP ($29.80) CO ($62.45) Button ($10.45) SB ($29) Hero ($54.10) Preflop: Hero is BB with 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. UTG calls $0.50, 1 fold, CO raises to $2.25, Button calls $2.25, SB calls $2, 1 fold, UTG calls $1.75. Re: Preflop help required (hands)
Hand 1 most people will advocate at LEAST a call and some advocate a raise. I don't think I ever just flat fold this.
Hand 2 is def the type of hand that gets you into trouble but I still play it most of the time. Hand 3 is fine. Some people will say it will only get you into trouble. Hand 4 the 245 is a bit on the low range (I'd prefer a 678-type holding) but still playable. Hand 5 is stronger than the QT94 earlier which I sometimes play. This hand is too good multi-way to lay down here. Hand 6 should be a call; especially because of your position. |

Re: Preflop help required (hands)
Hand 4 will do nothing but get you in trouble.
You will either flop a flush draw, which means you will end up getting it in against any other random 4 cards, which will be 65/35 ahead of you, or you will hit an idiot end straight or a small full house, both of which cost you more money than you make. This is an easy fold. It is only a playable hand if you are trying to lose at Omaha. |

Re: Preflop help required (hands)
One general thing I can see that you're doing way too much is limping and folding to a raise. This is just throwing money out with both hands. A great deal of pots are going to be raised so don't even enter the pot unless you're willing to play for a raise. It really doesn't make much difference anyway as unlike in NLHE, where a PF raise can mean a strong holding that may have you dominated, a raise in PLO doesn't really do anything to your equity in the pot.
Also, most of these hands are good enough to call a raise with anyway. The only ones I'd fold are the A245 and the 8655 just because you're in the small blind on that one. |

Re: Preflop help required (hands)
2, 3, and 4 are the best folds.
For 2, I would never even limp from that position unless people were rarely raising, and even then, the low FD and high gap can work pretty badly multi-way. For 3, the low pair and the high gap between 8 and 6 make this a bad hand. 8875 would be a lot better. Number 4 is probably a leak for me. I call with these too often. I guess, somewhere deep down, I want to play O8. 1 and 6 are obvious easy calls. For 1, the single suited Kings have more than enough set mining value by themselves. For 6, it's mostly about position. I don't like the gap between 7 and 5, but you're on the button so it will be a lot easier to control the action and make good decisions. 5 isn't quite a no-brainer but it's too well co-ordinated to fold. High gaps are not nearly as bad with 3 or more broadway cards as they are with things like 9763. |
