37 people left in 15$ MTT, early position raiser into my AK off
Up until this point, I had only shown down big hands. I had momentum going into this hand and felt confident I could get this player to lay down his hand. He had been playing fairly tight and I was almost certain I'd get a fold out of him. Did I make a bad play on this occasion?

You said he was playing fairly tight and he raised from UTG, you should have given him credit for a big hand. You also had a good hand, but I may have let this one go.

Re: 37 people left in 15$ MTT, early position raiser into my AK off
This is so incredibly standard...
You have AKo, which is a powerhouse hand. You are only a huge underdog against one hand (AA), and a substantial underdog against another (KK). All other hands you are either a 45:55 dog or ahead. That said, this hand should be an auto-raise. Raising a standard 3-4x the previous raise would commit a huge portion of your stack, so you are better off pushing. Being results oriented does not help anyone get better. If he had called with AQs and spiked the flush, would you still doubt you play, even though you got your $$$ in ahead? |

Thanks for responding.
what I should have mentioned was if I flat call and see a flop, do I have a shot at moving the villain off the hand in your opinion? |

[/ QUOTE ] No because his cards then change to QQ or JJ and you lose anyway. EDIT:You have to forget his cards were AKs... they are XX where XX is a range of hands. If you flat call he is probably leading out. You are shoving? |
