Re: Ask me about finding a cat stuck up a telephone pole
Around 7pm tonight my wife pointed out the kitchen window and asked if I saw something on the telephone pole. It looked like a huge raccoon hanging upside down. I went out there and my dogs were going crazy jumping at the telephone pole and stuck up high in the air was what looked to be a raccoon hanging by his hind legs on the wires.
the animal wasnt moving and at first i thought it had electrocuted itself. after watching it for a while i realized it was a cat with a ringed tail and was alive but not doing too well. it would periodically move its head to the side and looked to have its leg stuck between the wire and the pole. im sure my dogs chased it up the pole and it freaked out once it got up too high. my wife called animal control and asked them if theyd come out. im not exactly sure how the conversation went but they suggested calling the electric company. after i was looking at the lines i realized the cat was probably on the telephone lines and not the electric lines. i have a huge ass ladder that would have gotten me mostly up to the cat but i thought trying to get the cat out would most seriously get me attacked by the cat and even though i was pretty sure those were telephone lines and no electrical lines, i wasnt willing to risk my life on it. (horrible pic i know) well when my wife called the electric company she told them she didnt know which lines the cat was on. that got a call from the fire department to come out. i didnt think they did the "cat stuck in a tree" calls any more but if a cat frying a neighborhood's power for the night, i guess the city figures preventative maintenance is worth it. by the time the fire department arrived the cat had been hanging upside for around 30-40 minutes. my wife and i walked out front to meet the guys and then showed them the cat out back. when we got out back a few minutes later the cat had gotten out from hanging upside and was now sitting on the small black box suspended on the wire. now we look like jackasses for calling the fire department for this. the guys were about as nice about it as they could be and we all assume the cat will come down on his own accord now. they pack up and leave. it's been about three and a half hours since they left and the cat is still stuck up there. |

You should have just thrown a a couple fire crackers at it and saved the taxpayers about a thousand bucks.

I'm confused why you didn't just bring the dogs away for a while, the cat would figure it out eventually.

Eventually it will kind of run/fall down the pole.

Re: Ask me about finding a cat stuck up a telephone pole
it's about 20-25 feet off the ground so i guess for a cat that's a bit out of its comfort zone.
and as soon as i saw the cat and realized the dogs were barking at it, i put the dogs inside. they were only outside for a minute or two with me. it's going on 4 hours and the cat hasnt figured it out yet. |

Skunk, My cat has been chased into a few tall trees, and he'll sit up their meowing for a long time but eventually he'll get hungry and run down. I can only assume this is the same with most. |
