I bet less on the flop, $2 is fine.
When he donks into you on the turn, I would bet an amount he will call. No reason to force him into a big decision here. Your bet is ~ pot sized, but with the nuts, I like a raise to $8 or $9. You can still easily get all in on the river if he calls. |

yeah i figured i raised too much, but i figured with that bet he wouldve shoved there, bad read i guess

Definitely bet smaller on the turn, size your turn & river bets in such a way to maximize the chance the opponents call you all the way.
