A spot where LHE theory doesn\'t apply...
Hey guys, I'm at work, so I'm posting this hand from memory. The player here seems to be a standard TAG. My image is fairly solid, though I've been raising a lot preflop. Interested in comments on all streets, but particularly the turn. I feel that the mindset I developed as a limit player (squeeze all the value possible out of your hands, bet when checked to, etc.) worked against me here.
FTP. 1-2 NL. Effective stacks 200. Villain raises to 7 in cutoff. Hero calls on button with 7 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Flop is K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Villain bets 15, hero calls. Turn is 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Villain checks, hero bets $30??? |

If you're calling the flop, I imagine it's with the intention of betting the turn if he shows weakness? I don't think you're getting value, but I could imagine you folding out some better pocket pairs.

Re: A spot where LHE theory doesn\'t apply...
there are alot of spots in No Limit Holdem where Limit theory doesn't apply. fwiw, i check that turn most always without a better read than simply "TAG". some TAGs will CRAI with a hand like Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. some TAGs will fold QQ to a potsize or 2/3s pot size bet. know your man.

Check this through. You have sd value and poor equity vs his calling range.

Re: A spot where LHE theory doesn\'t apply...
What are you guys doing on certain rivers if he bets? What do you do with a hand like K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] here? I'm guessing check through, difference between this and 77 is we valuebet the river if he checks?
Do we have to bet this turn with made hands if we wanna float, or should we not worry about that at this limit with the limited history? Or should I not even be thinking about floating until I've got alot of hands under my belt? |

Re: A spot where LHE theory doesn\'t apply...
What's important when/if you call this flop is you consider yourself to be bluffing EVEN if you often have the best hand. What I mean is sure you have showdown value but you don't have ANY value betting value, so if you are going to stick money in it should be with the intention of bluffing and if you do wind up getting to showdown that's sort of a bonus that you have a hand with some value.
